Copy Editing & Proofreading

Hi there! My name is Doree Cornett, and I am a self-proclaimed wordsmith and lover of language.

 
My background has allowed me to learn the "language" of healthcare, but also the language of people. In that environment, along with typical administrative functions, I was responsible for anything "written" that went out of our practices, from human resource documents, policies, and manuals, to employment contracts and advertising materials. If it had words, I reviewed it before it went "to print".

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to expand my reach and began providing copy editing and proofreading services to outside clients. Since that time, I have grown my freelance business, working with individuals and businesses in the healthcare realm and outside, to hone their written (and spoken) words into a format that is ready for publication - both in print and many online platforms. I am also actively involved in educational opportunities that hone my skills as an editor and proofreader.

When I'm not in front of my computer, my husband and I are contributors (he is a photographer, I write music reviews) for These Subtle Sounds, a music blog. We also enjoy traveling, attending concerts, hanging out with our (6) kids, and loving on our furbabies

Is there a difference? 

The short answer is YES!

Copy Editing precedes proofreading.  While some areas are covered in both steps, they are separate processes. 

Proofreading provides the finishing touches before your copy is ready for print.
